Millennium Edition 2010 v2

Picking up where part 1 left off, the next two sets follow in the same vein with a decidedly more t-dance feel. Massive and I mean MASSIVE house classics are included in this set. North Carolina’s Peyton is represented with the original Eric Kupper production of “A Higher Place” as well as the oh so hard to find “This Is Your Life” by Mount Rushmore presents Celeste.

AHP is a big house classic bordering on gospel. It may even surprise you that the big soulful voice of Peyton is coming out of a white gay man. Full of optimism, it moves and lifts the spirits to another dimension. The latter song was originally included in a MOS compilation from 2000 and has long since been out of print. It’s taken me 5 years to track this down and when I did, it was a vinyl rip. Having worked my magic on it, you would never know. The origin of this song dates back to the early 90s when it was originally performed by Bandera. At the time, it was a minor, but memorable hit for them. In fact, Moony even did a remake on her debut album in 2001 and 7th Heaven worked their magic on the original, which came out last year. Frankly, it’s this version by Celeste that I’ve always loved and I am proud to finally present it to you on this set. The lyrics alone are worth their price in gold, but it’s Celeste’s vocals that really shine and make this such a fantastic song. For those of you that have muddled your way through life and haven’t quite lived up to your potential [clear throat], you’ll feel an immediate connection to this song.

I’ve thrown in two early Freemason’s classics “In My Mind” and “Lovin You More” by Heather Headley and Steve Smith. Both are uplifting house classics, even though the subject matter of IMM is rather somber if not depressing (you would never know). Another personal favorite from 2007 is the Junior Vasquez produced “Save a Place on the Dancefloor For Me” by the soulful songstress Dawn Tallman. This to is up there in my all-time favorites and should be played at my funeral if anything ever happened to me (I’m just sayin’).

Deep Dish’s remake of the Fleetwood Mac classic “Dreams” had been floating around the internet for about a year before Stevie Nicks agreed to go back into the studio and re-record the vocals for a new take. As a huge Stevie fan, I can’t begin to tell you how pleased I was with the final outcome. Afro Medusa’s #1 Latin classic “Pasilda” needs no introduction. This song has been re-worked by ATFC and more recently Seamus Haji to great affect. I’ve included the original Knee Deep production for posterity’s sake, which will whisk you back to the summer of 2000.

The final three songs are absolute stunners! “Rise” the debut by Samantha James was all the buzz at WMC that year and Andrea Britton’s “Counting Down the Days” was one of those slow burners that kept heating up the charts and radio one week at a time.

Finally, Mark Picchiotti and Dana Devine deliver the summer anthem of all anthems! “Turn It Up” was a massive hit that came in all flavors. Whether you were into circuit or electro the song managed to cross the entire spectrum of house music. Kenny Hayes delivered a ball of sunshine with his production landing itself into one of my top ten all-time favorites.

From start to finish, I think everyone who’s into happy house will love this set. All I can think about is summer, summer oh yeah, and summer when I listen to this mix. I’ve got the equally stellar third set ready for delivery on Saturday. I’ve already starting work on the Spring Edition, which by all accounts is pretty deep, dark and very circuit oriented. Lot’s a great stuff in there so stay tuned. I’ll be back in a couple of days. Until then, enjoy!
